Paradise by Judith McNaught
This is one of my all-time favorite romance books from no less than the bestselling author Judith McNaught. She has been an inspiration to me until this very day. I remember when I first read this book, I could not put it down and I spent the entire night reading it up to the very end.
This is the story of Matthew Farrell and Meredith Bancroft. Matthew was from a poor family and worked in a steel mill. Meredith came from a very rich family who owned a chain of department stores. When the two met, they were drawn with an irresistible and magnetic force toward each other. So much so that it led them to share a passionate night. Meredith got pregnant and they got married. But Meredith’s father very much disapproved of Matthew for his daughter and effectively interfered in their relationship and separated them from each other.
Matthew used his feelings of insecurity and betrayal to work his way up the corporate ladder. Years later, he was on top of the world, ready to conquer anyone who stood on his way. Then he met Meredith again. Their feelings were undeniably as fervent as before. But Matthew wanted to hate her and execute his revenge. However, they both found out how Meredith’s father deceived them both.
This book will make you feel a roller coaster of emotions. But most importantly, it will make you believe in the power of love. When two people love each other truly and deeply, there is no force on earth that can keep them apart. It is about the beauty of second chances and how we should not waste the opportunity given to us to correct the mistakes of the past and start anew.
Paradise is really a Judith McNaught classic and masterpiece. You will find yourself wanting to know more about the story of the Farrell couple because they have made such a lasting impact in our hearts.
